EPICO

EPICO KlimaInnovation is a think tank based in Berlin and Brussels that develops sustainable, market- and innovation-oriented strategies for climate neutrality from the centre of society, which are anchored to socially just and equitable transformations, and contributes as a network und platform to their implementation.

We are convinced that climate and energy policy that relies on the dynamics of competition and innovation is the key to reliably and efficiently reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gases and thereby reconciling environmental and climate protection, sustainable economic growth and socially just and equitable outcomes.

Climate Tech is decisive for Germany and Europe to seize the opportunity to achieve climate neutrality and lay the foundation for sustainable prosperity and more sovereignty. Positive signs of this are growing private investments in future technologies of strategic importance. However, more incentives should be created to leverage the necessary private capital for achieving much needed technological leaps for the transformation of industry with significant market risks in the short and medium term.”

  • Low-Carbon Basic Materials

Basic materials such as steel, cement, chemicals and lime account for almost half of Germany’s industrial emissions. This poster sets out the options for decarbonizing their production. Five cross-cutting levers for industrial decarbonization are described: direct electrification, material circularity, energy efficiency, green hydrogen and PtX, and CCU/CCS. A case study then walks through the options…

This two-page poster provides an overview of the carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) value chain and its associated technologies. CO₂ can be captured from industrial point sources or directly from the air. Then, it can be used in industrial processes or permanently stored to prevent its release into the atmosphere. The poster compares three…
