HDF Energy Germany

HDF Energy is a leading global player in the hydrogen industry, dedicated to developing large-scale hydrogen power plants and advanced multi-megawatt fuel cell technology. These fuel cells generate electricity from hydrogen, driving the decarbonization efforts across the power generation, heavy maritime and rail mobility sectors. In 2024, HDF Energy opened its factory near Bordeaux for mass production of PEM fuel cells.

Headquartered in France, HDF Energy has regional offices across the world – one of them in Germany. In 2023, the HDF Energy Deutschland GmbH was created headquartered in Berlin.

Since then, HDF Energy Deutschland has been developing several Hydrogen-to-Power plants (HyPower) based on fuel cells in different regions of the country. These plants will harness green or low-carbon hydrogen from hydrogen infrastructure to generate clean, peak-load electricity. With one HyPower demonstration plant already in operation — Cleargen in Martinique — the solution is not just a concept, but a mature technology, ready to decarbonize Germany’s power grid and ensure energy security.

“Building a robust hydrogen ecosystem requires a clear regulatory framework – allowing deployment of hydrogen-to-power plants based on mature and commercially ready technologies to support testing infrastructure and hydrogen value chains”
